Passed with flying colours!

The Netherlands has more than forty thousand males of 30 years and older with refugee status. They no longer have the right to study grants and may not follow subsidised courses of study. This makes it difficult for them to find a job. Together with the 'de Nieuwe Buren’ trust and other companies in the construction and foundation industry we embarked on the ‘getting refugees to work in the construction industry’ programme.

The sixteen people with refugee status from labour market regions Zaanstreek-Waterland, Greater Amsterdam and West-Friesland have successfully completed their practical training. Following nine weeks of practical training, in which they also gained the VCA certificate (in Dutch), the refugees will now go to work for employers in the construction industry. So it is high time to celebrate their success! On Wednesday, 8 January 2020, they received their certificates at a ceremony attended by companies and family members.

Practical training in foundation installation

The refugees followed the practical training course in foundation installation at the Crescendo training centre. They sat the exam in VCA Basic Health and Safety at Work (VCA Basisveiligheid). In addition they followed courses in how to secure loads, how to operate a fork-lift truck and cherry-picker safely, working in an operational team, foundation technology, basic welding and cutting, and working in the foundation industry.
