Concrete screw piles

Concrete screw piles are developed for projects on sandy soil and are also applicable to other specific soil conditions. They are non-soil-displacing and are produced at a high speed. The production is vibration-free and low-noise.

Application

  • Particularly suitable in built-up areas where foundation work needs to be vibration-free and/or low-noise.
  • Highly effective in areas with sandy soil up to the surface. Due to the short required reinforcement and high production rate, it’s an economical type of pile.
  • Can be used as a pile wall by screwing the piles directly next to each other, creating a vibration-free retaining wall.
  • A good alternative in areas with solid topsoil layers where traditional piling could lead to pile breakage.

Features

  • Rapid delivery times possible.
  • Limited possibility for adjustments in pile specification until just before the start of work.
  • The piles can be loaded both in compression and tension.
  • Under certain conditions, piles can be directly finished to the desired height.
  • The pile system is not soil-displacing.
  • Concrete screw piles can be reinforced along their entire length. For longer pile lengths, a central rod is used.
  • The pile system is known and accepted by the Building and Housing Supervision Service, structural engineers, and in building standards.
  • Installed vibration-free and with low noise.

This soil-removing foundation technique is applied in residential and utility construction where specific soil conditions are present.

Concrete screw piles are produced in lengths up to 26 meters, and specific requests are accommodated.

Quality Control

Vroom Funderingstechnieken manufactures concrete screw piles according to its own execution procedure established as part of internal quality control and nationally applicable standards.

The manufactured concrete screw piles can optionally be acoustically measured and then assessed by an independent advisory bureau. Thanks to its own quality control, appropriate responses can be made in case of doubts about pile quality or client requests regarding execution.

Concrete for concrete screw piles is sourced from certified concrete plants.

Technical data

Pile Length

We have multiple hydraulically operated rigs capable of manufacturing concrete screw piles up to about 26 meters in length. Longer piles are available with customized machinery.

Screw Installation

Our screw installations are equipped with hydraulic drilling motors. Vroom Funderingstechnieken has drilling motors for concrete screw piles with a capacity of up to 25 ton-meters.

Concrete Quality

Available in C20/25, C25/30, and C30/37 quality.

Reinforcement

B500B quality.

Longitudinal reinforcement is dimensioned based on load data provided by the structural engineer.

The reinforcement can be executed with stirrups or in a spiral form.

Bearing Capacity

The geotechnical bearing capacity according to Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743) provides as pile class factors:

Pile Point Load Bearing Factor

αp = 0.56 (path III – reduced)
β = 1.0 for standard tube/footplate dimensions

Shaft Friction Factor

αs = 0.006
Tension αt = 0.0045

Load and Deformation Behavior

In accordance with Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743, type 2)

Loading Spectrum

Up to a maximum of 5000 kN pressure (calculated value).

Structural Aspects

Available concrete screw pile diameters, sizes in mm:
300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 1000.

The shaft dimensions are fixed.
Other pile diameters available on request.

Manufacturing

  1. Positioning of the auger drill with hydraulic drilling motor.
  2. The screw installation rotates clockwise to the correct depth.
  3. The core of the tube is filled with concrete mix until the correct pressure is achieved.
  4. The mix in the core is continuously kept under pressure while the tube is pulled up either stationary or slightly rotating clockwise.
  5. Reinforcement installation.
