HEK-combi screw piles

HEK-combi screw piles are used for underground construction such as tunneling, parking garages, and other projects where the pile heads need to be installed deep beneath the driving surface. The HEK-combi screw piles possess the relevant features and geotechnical bearing capacity of HEK screw piles.

Application

  • HEK-combi screw piles are highly suitable for underground construction, such as parking garages, basements, and tunnel structures, which need to be constructed from a deeper level.
  • The HEK-combi screw pile, like the HEK screw pile, is suitable for the foundation of projects in built-up areas or where excavated soil or vibrations are undesirable.

Features

  • HEK-combi screw piles are equipped with a prefabricated concrete element that must be placed deeply from a higher level.
  • The prefabricated concrete element of prestressed concrete can absorb both compressive and tensile loads.
  • Soil-displacing, with only limited excavated soil.
  • The pile system is introduced vibration-free and with low noise.

HEK-combi screw piles can be manufactured in lengths of up to approximately 48 meters, depending on the foundation machine and soil condition. The screw piles are manufactured using a steel auxiliary tube, which is screwed into place.

Special Aspects

Vroom Funderingstechnieken can advise on the application of the HEK-combi screw pile for any soil condition and the appropriate type to use.

Control during Production

Thanks to automatic recording of rotational torque, pull down force, and drilling time, the operator has up-to-date information on the pile being made at all times and can immediately detect deviations in the soil condition and anticipate them: rotational torque, insertion speed, and scraping factor are indicators for following the sounding; water ingress in the screw tube is checked with a plumb bob or stone.

After Production (Optional)

Through its own quality control, Vroom Funderingstechnieken can respond adequately to doubts about pile quality or client requests regarding execution.

HEK-combi screw piles produced by Vroom Funderingstechnieken can be acoustically measured and then assessed by an independent advisory bureau.

Quality Control of Grout by Drilling and Testing Cores

The grout is sourced from certified concrete plants. The prefabricated concrete elements are produced and supplied by certified manufacturers.
Vroom Funderingstechnieken manufactures HEK-combi screw piles according to its own execution procedure established as part of internal quality control and nationally applicable standards.

Technical data

General

  • Batter positions available on request and dependent on the situation and pile length.
  • Available auxiliary equipment: concrete pump, shovel, and bucket.
  • Machine noise level approximately 90 dB. The system is considered to be vibration-free.

Drilling Installation

Continuously adjustable and dependent on the drilling motor:

  • Torque 250 to 500 kNm.
  • Pull down 150 to 400 kN.

Grout Injection

HEK-combi screw piles can be executed with grout injection if this is required structurally or necessary for the execution.

Prefabricated Concrete Element

The prefabricated concrete element is equipped with a lifting device in the pile head and a chamfer on all four sides. The prefabricated concrete core can be factory-fitted with a profiling or an embedded anchor bolt.

Grout

Grout strength 25 to 35 N/mm². Grout is introduced using a bucket or concrete pump and is not pressurized. The pressure in the auxiliary tube is the static occurring pressure. During execution, a calculated amount of grout is introduced, and the screw tube is further filled with water.

Bearing Capacity

Geotechnical bearing capacity according to Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743).

The screw point is a welded constructed point adapted to geotechnical conditions. In some cases, the point is executed in a cast form. The ratio of the footplate/shaft is optimized to Dfoot < √1.5 x Dshaft.

The bearing capacity factors to be followed according to Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743) are at the pile tip level, which is the bottom of the screw tube.

Pile Tip Bearing Capacity Factor

αp = 0.63
β = 1.0 (Dfoot < √1.5 x Dshaft)
S = 1.0

Shaft Friction for Pressure Piles

αs = 0.009 (When applying grout injection αs = 0.009)

Shaft Friction for Tension Piles

αt = 0.009 (When applying grout injection αt = 0.009)

Load-Deformation Behavior

In accordance with Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743, type 1, figure 6 and 7)

Loading Spectrum

Depending on the diameter and soil conditions, tensile and compressive loads up to approximately 5000 kN (calculated value)
Larger loads possible in specific projects in consultation with geotechnical advisor and Vroom Funderingstechnieken.

Structural Aspects

Available screw tube diameters, shaft point diameter, in mm:

  • Square 250mm 410/500 mm
  • Square 290 mm or octagonal 365mm 460/560 mm
  • Square 320 or 350 mm or octagonal 430mm 540/680 mm

Other diameters available on request. The maximum pile length is approximately 48 meters, depending on the diameter and soil condition. Larger pile lengths investigated on request.

Manufacturing

  1. Positioning of the steel auxiliary tube, equipped with a loose, closing screw point. The drilling head and point are positioned on the ground surface in the correct position.
  2. The hydraulic drilling installation, in combination with pull-down force, screws the auxiliary tube to the desired depth.
  3. The prefabricated concrete element is introduced once the auxiliary tube is at depth.
  4. Grout mix is poured into the auxiliary tube using a bucket.
  5. The auxiliary tube is oscillated or screwed out, leaving behind the screw point and the prefabricated element surrounded by grout.
  6. Moving the machine to the next position.
