The main features of HEK screw piles are:
The pile specifications can be altered right up to just before the start of the work and, sometimes, even during the work itself.
Able to absorb relatively high compressive and tensile forces as the case may be.
They displace soil, so no soil comes to the surface during installation.
The system does not cause vibrations or excessive noise during installation as the piles are screwed in rather than driven.
HEK screw piles can be reinforced across the entire length with a cage and, as a result, can absorb relatively high compressive and tensile forces as the case may be.
Centrumeiland: Amsterdam's premier 'self-build’ island
Protected, yet with plenty natural light. Robust, yet still transparent. Full of character, yet also friendly and hospitable. IJgenwijs will be an oasis of calm between verdant parks on the edge of the city.
The construction work on Centrumeiland is in full swing. Many self-builders are getting on with the process of building their own house. The first residents moved to the island in 2020. Over the next few years various project developers, building consortia and self-builders will also make a start on their new dwellings. We expect that nearly all the dwellings and other amenities will be completed by 2028. The last residential block will be finished in 2029.
The 34 apartments will be unique and sustainable, built with the 'green’ ethos in mind. Centrumeiland is the city's premier 'self-build’ island It will have around 1,500 dwellings, 70 per cent of which will be 'self-build’ projects. Residents are building their own dream house themselves on various plots. In addition, there will be social housing and affordable rental stock, along with a range of amenities such as a primary school, crèche, youth-talent centre, hospitality businesses, innovation centre, a care home and hostel. There will also be a mix of small shops, businesses and offices. The island is around 15 hectares in size. That is about the same as 23 football pitches. In terms of surface area it is comparable with Steigereiland Zuid.
