A new residential area with character is rising on the Westerwal. Phase 1 consists of 50 dwellings and 6 apartments. A project with a very diverse range of homes. Atmospheric and distinctive residential units, inspired by the history of both this ancient Dutch waterside settlement and the industrial past on the Westerwal. Right on the banks of the Hollandsche IJssel and, at the same time, on the edge of the delightful town centre. A hidden jewel in the middle of the urban sprawl of the Randstad.
Due to the adjacent structures and old foundations still in evidence on site, we opted for DPA screw piles, which have an average length of 21 metres and diameter of 410 mm.
50 dwellings and 6 apartments
We are making the foundations (with DPA screw piles, a cast-in-situ soil-displacement drilled pile system) for this striking new-build project at a historic site in Oudewater.
Historic site with a future
Oudewater obtained a town charter in 1265, which makes it the oldest town in the Groene Hart, in the centre of the Netherlands. Oudewater stands at the confluence of the Hollandsche IJssel and the smaller Lange Linschoten. Oudewater has over 300 historic buildings, 97 locally-listed monuments and 127 nationally-listed monuments, giving it the highest monument density in the Netherlands.
The characteristic atmosphere of Westerwal is partly defined by its location on the banks of the Hollandsche IJssel, where you can sail to your heart’s content. The two dinghy marinas, Singelhaven and Six, that are to be created, are in direct communication with the Hollandsche IJssel. You can even sail your dinghy via the lock that leads to the historic town centre onto the Lange Linschoten.
Nature will have free rein in the Westerwal development; new trees and hedges will be planted, and the riverbanks will be landscaped with as much greenery as possible. A ‘nature playground’ with sustainable wooden apparatus will be built, where children can play freely and dream the day away. There will also be a bioswale to collect and channel excess rainwater.
