Cargo hall 17, Schiphol

61000 m2 of floor space 1500 piles

Immediately adjacent to the Kaagbaan runway at Schiphol Airport, under the strict supervision of air traffic control, we are making around 1500 piles for the vibrated-pile foundations of Cargo hall 17.

Cargo hall 17 is a development on behalf of existing tenant dnata, one of the largest cargo handlers at Schiphol. The project covers an area of 61,000 m2 of commercial space, with a 6700 m2 internal mezzanine floor of office space to a design by DP6 architects. It is the largest commercial property development made by Schiphol Commercial Real Estate at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam.

Sustainability goals

Goods delivered by airfreight will be immediately unloaded in the 'airside’ zone of the building, then they will be redistributed and prepared for onward transport on the ‘landside’ zone by means of an automated system, and vice versa.

Schiphol Commercial Real Estate has particularly far-reaching sustainability ambitions for its new cargo hall. BREEAM Excellent is the aim, with zero-energy and a focus on the reduction of CO2. Also, a minimum of 50% of the building's weight will be made up of recycled materials. And in order to be flexible in relation to future changes at Schiphol, it must be possible to dismantle the cargo hall and reassemble it on a different site.

The final key point addressed by the design is the well-being of the users. Cargo hall 17 will occupy the place where buildings including Panalpina's warehouse 18 once stood, a building that was recently rebuilt on a different site.
