Heat piles in Zaandam

In Zaandam, we are installing DPA screw piles for the De Kroon apartment complex. This pile system was chosen for the urban area, situated directly on the Provincialeweg and close to the NS railway line.

The DPA screw pile is manufactured with minimal vibration, which is crucial at this location. What’s unique about this pile foundation is that the reinforcement cages of the DPA screw piles are equipped with heat pipes. These pipes are mounted on the inside of the cage throughout its entire length at the construction site, lifted into place, and poured into the tube with the concrete. The heat pipes will later be clustered in groups of four and connected to the heat pump for the hot water supply of the apartment complex.

Vroom Funderingstechnieken has contributed to the development of these ‘heat piles’ and carried out their engineering. The implementation of these innovative heat piles is progressing as expected. This also applies to the communication with our client, Bouwbedrijf Van der Gragt, with whom we have had a long-standing collaboration. Due to the remediation of the construction ground and the water problems during these works, we started the foundation works at a later stage, following thorough consultation.

Kudos to the men of the pile driving crew, who had never made these heat piles before, but have made this project a great success through their insight and craftsmanship.

Centre plan Inverdan

De Kroon van Amsterdam is located on the edge of Zaandam's city heart, on the former BAM site near Mauritsstraat. As one of the last projects within the central plan Inverdan, this marks the transformation from industrial activity to vibrant living. The design, consisting of four 'warehouses', harks back to what made Zaandam famous: the food industry. Giants like Verkade, Duijvis, and of course the major grocer Albert Heijn continue to satisfy our healthy and tasty cravings to this day.

The architecture merges the surrounding industrial heritage with ultra-modern living comfort. Studios, two- and three-room apartments in the luxury segment are distributed across the different residential buildings, which are built on top of the parking garage.
