Koninklijke Saan

1700 piles 125 years of expertise

Koninklijke Saan currently has its head office and secondary business premises on the Weesperstraat in Diemen. The main offices were built more than forty years ago. The company’s buildings are due for a thorough refurbishment. Moreover, the fact that operations are split between two sites is beginning to be problematic and the current location, in the immediate vicinity of residential areas, is not ideal.

Saan has been part of the fabric of Diemen since its establishment, nearly 125 years ago, and wanted to remain within the limits of the locality. Diemen local authority was prepared to do everything it could to help Saan, which provides plenty employment opportunities and makes a valuable contribution to society, to find suitable premises within the town. An appropriate site was found on the Overdiemerweg, opposite the Vattenfall power station. Vattenfall is not using all the land for its operations.

Two pile systems

Not least due to the presence of a Vattenfall heating pipe in the proposed building site, the recommendation was to go for two pile systems.

Vibrated HBF-type piles are highly suited to projects in the fields of residential construction, non-residential and utilities projects, infrastructure and the energy sector. Vibrated piles can be made in long lengths and the delivery time is always short. Rough-boring cuts down on pile-driving vibration, and the use of a noise-reducing jacket during the work gives even more damping.

The DPA PLUS screw pile forms part of a cast-in-situ displacement screw pile system. The soil is pushed to the side so only a little of the disturbed soil can enter the casing. It is a low-vibration process, which is important where piles are installed close to adjacent walls that could easily be damaged by subsidence and/or vibrations.
