1 Data centre40 Piles

In the Waarderpolder in Haarlem, we are driving pre-cast concrete piles for a relatively small data centre, with a footprint of 300 m2.

At this site, an industrial and business park, it’s fine to work with a pre-cast driven pile system. It is a traditional pile system that can be used for almost all types of building. The pile head can be cut to size in the case of floor fields and the depth to which the piles are driven can be controlled by means of counting the number of blows used.

Thanks to bulk orders from suppliers, we have the flexibility to absorb any changes that arise in the pile specifications. The pre-cast piles can be driven at a raking angle, leaning backward up to a maximum of 4:1 and forward up to a maximum of 5:1. Compression, tensile and torque loads can easily be absorbed with extra reinforcement.

See the 3D product animation for this pile system here.

Art and functionality go hand in hand here.

The exterior of the data centre is inspired by the collars of the Haarlem painter Frans Hals and the KPN’s coil reels. You could almost imagine the building as a reel that is lying on its side. The edges of the reels have become thick concrete façade bands. The external walls are clad with smooth, lightly-coloured panelling. This is covered with an organic pattern of wavy black lines: the cables. The relief makes the exterior look different throughout the day due to changes in how the light illuminates it.
