2 buildings 611 piles

Work on the Kaap newbuild project on the Distelweg in Amsterdam Noord is progressing, and we’re making the foundations with vibro-combi piles and HEK-combi screw piles.

The Kaap newbuild project is breathing more life into the vicinity of Amsterdam Noord. At the request of the chief engineer, three types of pile were initially assessed: pre-cast concrete piles, vibro-piles installed by driving a casing tube which is ultimately withdrawn and a vibration-free pile system. In the case of the vibration-free pile system it was decided, in consultation with the chief engineer, to use grout-injection screw piles in which the shoe is ‘left behind’. In the calculations for the screw piles with detachable pile shoe it is assumed that the grout-injection method will be used, as this is necessary to install the piles to the required pile shoe level.

New flair

Modern architecture and the calming green give new flair to the industrial past of the area. The new construction is made up of the development of residential and/or commercial buildings (some high-rise) of up to 30 metres in height, plus underground parking. The underground parking facility will be built under part of the building, and will be half-sunk. A waterside park will be created around the buildings, providing space for a small-scale catering pavilion.

Amsterdam Noord is a lively and inspiring part of the city that is consistently developing into the creative centre of Amsterdam. It's full of contrasts. From imposing modern architecture, hip restaurants, stylish eateries and an advanced start-up scene to places with an industrial feel, picturesque countryside, green parks and outlying rural areas. Kaap is situated on one of the most notable parts of this neighbourhood, on the banks of the IJ, on private land.
