Having started with the conversion of a production hall into a data centre in late 2015 (AMS01), this was followed by AMS02, AMS03 and AMS04. It is now the turn of AMS05 for conversion and expansion. As the force exerted on the floor of the new data centre requires a greater load-bearing capacity than when it was in use as a production hall, we have extended the foundations using extra piles, coupled with a new concrete floor. The work involved in AMS05 was completed in October 2021.
The work was carried out by Winthrop Contracting and Engineering, an Irish contractor specialised in building data centres. Winthrop works with high-level safety culture, which means that a verifiable risk analysis must be conducted in advance of the work, there must be on-going safety monitoring and the managers of all contractors must conduct safety walk-arounds.
