We are installing over 1000 vibrated piles and HEK grout-injection piles on behalf of the De Nijs – UBA vof consortium for the newbuild SugarCity Outlet Centre project in Halfweg. The building will have retail floor space of 18,000 m2, 1,000 m2 devoted to catering and hospitality, and will be built on the roof of a two-storey car park offering 1450 parking spaces.

SugarCity is especially suitable for those looking for office space. The silos, formerly used to store sugar, have been converted into hyper-modern offices and showrooms. The two fifty-metre high sugar silos, together with the lime kiln, are the landmarks of SugarCity. The vibrant, industrial surrounding area not only ensures you have a unique calling card to show guests and customers: it can also be reached easily by both car and public transport.

Grout

For this project we chose a combination of vibrated piles and HEK piles. HEK piles are soil-displacing concrete cast in-situ piles. A steel tube is drilled into the ground with a rotary drill attachment. In doing this, we use grout, a water/cement mixture. Once the reinforcement and mortar have been installed, the tube is removed and the pile cures in the ground.
