A partnership made up of NS, Studioninedots, Delva Landscape Architecture, De Wijde Blik, Synchroon and Utrecht City Council is aiming to make a success of the land on the Wisselspoor site in Utrecht. The work involved is in full swing, including installation of 472 drilled DPA piles, in two phases.

The piles have a diameter of 460 mm and the foot of each pile is buried in the stratum of sand that lies at a depth of 17 metres. The construction of the apartments and dwellings is in the hands of Gebr. Blokland, of Hardinxveld-Giessendam.

Wisselspoor

This is where, in an almost hidden track-side location, you can find the former Koninklijke Nederlandse Fabriek voor Werktuigen en Spoormaterieel, an engineering and rolling stock works known locally as ‘Werkspoor'. Over the next few years this area is going to be transformed into a pleasant residential environment amidst industrial heritage, such as the old production halls and sections of points and track. That makes the Wisselspoor development a bit of the city with raw character. In addition to a varied selection of dwellings this area will also be home to interesting amenities, such as traditional catering and hospitality establishments and creative businesspeople.
