Apartments Houtrak Oostenburg

36 apartments 115 piles

In Amsterdam Oostenburg, we are manufacturing the DPA screw piles for the foundation of Houtrak, an iconic and sustainable new construction project with a typically Dutch signature.

For the foundation, our chosen solution is the DPA pile system. DPA stands for Drilling Push Aside and is a ground-formed and ground-displacing screw pile system. There is only limited soil removal involved. The production process is low in vibrations, which is crucial, especially in this location, when working near adjacent structures sensitive to settlement and/or vibrations.

The energy-efficient building comprises 36 exclusive studios, apartments, split-level lofts, and penthouses, each with its own rooftop terrace. This structure is predominantly constructed using wooden columns in combination with prefabricated concrete floors, representing not only an innovative approach to sustainability but also paying homage to the rich history of this location, once home to wooden work buildings.

From industrial heritage to a vibrant residential and working location

Oostenburg is one of the three islands that were reclaimed from marshland near the IJ in the seventeenth century. The island is centrally located in Amsterdam and was originally used for shipbuilding and heavy industry, hosting numerous shipyards and warehouses.

Today, Oostenburg has undergone a transformation into an area being redeveloped into a mixed residential and working location. Preserving historical buildings and developing new sustainable structures are key priorities in this redevelopment.

Oostenburg now accommodates creative businesses, restaurants, residences, and public amenities. It has become a lively neighborhood blending the old and the new, industrial heritage and modern architecture.
